Following the heart-breaking Grenfell Tower tragedy in 2017, the government introduced a Building Safety Programme which included an independent Expert Panel, to make sure that residents of high-rise buildings are safe – and feel safe – now and in the future. Subsequently the Building Safety Fund was introduced which aims to protect leaseholders from the cost of addressing fire-safety risks, caused by unsafe external façade systems.
In conjunction with the above and due to the changes in legislation and the difficulties in obtaining affordable insurance premiums, property managers and owners are now challenged with undertaking the necessary remedial work to ensure their property is safe and fit for purpose, for its occupants.
